Courses of Serbian language for adults

Courses of Serbian language for adults for non Serbian speakers. Levels: beginners and lower intermediate. Courses will start on Wednesday, 20 October 2004, and will run for 15 weeks each. These are evening courses (from 7 to 8.30 pm). Courses are aimed for, or complete beginners and those who now very little (beginners), or those who have some knowledge of spoken language (we recommend this course to all students who attended our last year beginners course). It introduces students to an understanding of spoken and written language in everyday situations, with an emphasis on speaking and listening, and with an emphasis on writting and grammar for those on intermediate level. So called direct system of study is applied for both courses. The courses will be held on the premises of the Serbian Society, which is a few minutes from Fulham Broadway underground station (District line). The price for each course is £150 (£10 per each 90 minutes long lesson). Our team of qualified Serbian teachers with many years of teaching experience will be responsible for good quality and high standard of our courses. Decija igraonica "Poletarac" Srpsko drustvo 11 September 2004 Posebno nam je zadovoljstvo obavestiti vas da od septembra 2004 godine pocinje sa radom decija igraonica - "Poletarac" u organizaciji Srpskog drustva iz Londona! Cilj ove igraonice je da deca kroz igru i druzenje nauce srpski jezik (pisanje, citanje i gramatiku), kao i srpske obicaje. Igraonica pocinje sa radom u subotu 11. septembra 2004. u 12 sati, u trajanju od 2 casa (12.00 - 14.00h) i odrzavace se svake subote tokom skolske godine 2004/05 u prostorijama St. Johns Church, North End Road, Fulham, London SW6 7PX (2 minuta od Fulham Broadway podzemne stanice i prostorija Srpskog drustva). A plaque honoring Serbian writer Milos Crnjanski unveiled in London - Tuesday, 6th July 2004 - Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro, in collaboration with the Serbian Council of Great Britain, dedicated the plaque today to well-known Serbian writer Milos Crnjanski. The plaque is located on the building in London in which Crnjanski lived for 12 years, between 1953 and 1965. Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro has initiated an action to get a commemorative plaque or statue for another well-known Serbian author that lived in London, Borislav Pekic.

Redovno, svake godine, predstavljamo se srpskom domacom kuhinjom: gibanice, kifle, strudle, razni kolaci i grickalice, tradicionalna srpska domaca jela; sve pripremljeno dobrovoljno i sa puno paznje od nasih domacica - clanova Srpskog drustva (i, naravno, nije samo za gledanje). Vasar je divna prilika za druzenje, kako medju nasim ljudima, tako i sa ostalim manjinama na teritoriju Fulhama, kao i domacinima (Englezima). Vasar je svake godine sve bolje i bogatije pripremljen. I ove godine, kao i prethodne, medju mnogobrojnim i raznovrsnim ucesnicima kulturno-umetnickog programa, bice i nasa folklorna grupa "Rastko". Crimson Harvest: an exhibition of paintings by Pero Mandic
Serbian artist Pero Mandic exhibits at St James's Piccadilly, London, during Refugee Week An exhibition of paintings by the Serbian refugee naive artist Pero Mandic brings the reality of the Balkans war to London during Refugee Week this June, highlighting how conflict wrecks lives, drives people from their homes and makes them pawns in international power games. Crimson Harvest - at St James's Church, Piccadilly, London from 9-22 June 2004 - features 20 paintings by Mandic, now a refugee in northern Serbia. Pero Mandic was well-known before the Bosnian war but lost everything in the conflict. The exhibition will feature paintings he rescued when he fled from Bosnian Federation to Serbia in 1995, as well as others painted during the years since. Mandic now lives in poverty in a village in northern Serbia. Crimson Harvest has messages for people, and for governments, as the world faces the war against terrorism. His large crimson canvases tell the story of life in the Balkans, of people from different ethnic groups and religions living peacefully side by side. But they also tell the story of the war in Bosnia - and vividly depict the predicament of people caught up in a conflict beyond their control. Mandic, who is without formal training, paints from the heart and his work has a particular resonance as the world faces the "war against terror". "If we can make the clever stop and the wise think," he says, "then all our efforts will be justified." The exhibition is supported by Arts Council England, Christian Aid, the Christian Arts Trust and the Serbian - based Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation which works with marginalized groups and people displaced by the Yugoslav war. But Nato soldiers and UN administrators, have watched as holy Christian shrines have been reduced to rubble and thousands of Serbs, Roma and other non-Albanians have been ethnically cleansed. This is the inevitable consequence of the ill-conceived war of Madeleine Albright (and Tony Blair). How does one begin to resolve Kosovo's problems? Do US interests and those of the "international community" accord with justice? Is a further enlarged, ever more unwieldy, EU destined to be burdened with further responsibilities in Kosovo but little say in policy? What would be the consequences of an independent Kosovo? Is partition preferable? Can any degree of Serbian sovereignty be reasserted? How does US policy in Kosovo fit in with Bush's "War on Terror"? Karadjordje i Srpska Revolucija

U Srpskom drustvu 21 februara 2004: Dva veka od Prvog srpskog ustanka - Dokumentarni film: Karadjordje i Srpska revolucija. Autori: Krsto Skanata, Milovan Vitezovic i Dragoslav Vasic, Produkcija: Topola film, Trajanje: 50 minuta. Dva veka od izbijanja pobune protiv Otomanske turske imperije Karadjordje je i danas centralna licnost moderne srpske istorije a Prvi srpski ustanak najznacajniji dogadjaj ne samo srpske nego i savremene istorije celoga Balkana. Karadjordje je organizovao goloruki narod i obnovio srpsku drzavu. Tadasnje velike sile i carska Rusija to nisu htele da prihvate i Karadjordjevo delo je, po cenu njegovog ubistva, tek kasnije ostvario Milos Obrenovic. Film "Karadjordje i srpska revolucija" na osnovu malo poznatih dokumenata razotkriva sve okolnosti i puni istorijski znacaj Karadjordjevog i srpskog ustanka.
Istog dana ce za vreme prikazivanja filma biti organizovana i minijaturna izlozba u SD-u, graficara - litografa Vladimira Boskovica. Vladimir Boskovic rodjen je 1949 godine. Zavrsio je Akademiju 1981 u Antverpenu, Belgiji, a zivi i radi u Londonu.
